About Metal Injection Molding 17-4PH Aging Treatment and Mechanical Properties
Date:[2023/10/20]
The tensile specimens of 17-4PH stainless steel were prepared using metal injection molding technology. After vacuum sintering and aging treatment, the effect was tested. The metallographic structure, tensile strength, yield strength, hardness, and elongation of the alloy showed that in the sintered state, the microstructure of 17-4PH was a coexistence of ferrite and martensite, with a tensile strength of 926MPa, a yield strength of 760MPa, and a hardness of 27HRC. After solid solution treatment, the alloy structure was ferrite The coexistence of martensite and austenite results in a decrease in strength and hardness, but an increase in elongation;
After solid solution and low-temperature aging treatment, the alloy structure is mainly tempered martensite, and with the precipitation of copper rich phase, its strength and hardness both increase; After solid solution and high-temperature aging, a 17-4PH sample with good plasticity is obtained by insulation at 150C. The metallographic structure of the 17-4PH precipitation strengthened stainless steel is widely used in medical devices, chemical engineering, automobiles, and weapons due to its excellent mechanical properties. Metal injection molding technology combines the advantages of complex and fast plastic injection molding and high strength powder metallurgy parts, allowing for the rapid and large-scale production of complex and precise components, It effectively solves the problem of difficulty in processing 17-4PH.
17-4HP is one of the most widely used stainless steel grades in injection molding technology. In addition, the mechanical properties of 17-4PH components vary greatly, and sintering process and aging have a crucial impact on the final performance of the components. The final structure determines the mechanical properties of the components. Currently, research on the heat treatment performance of 17-4PH metal injection molding has focused on precipitation strengthening, which is also the metallographic structure and mechanical properties of stainless steel.
